Framework
I approached the redesign by simplifying how users move through a complex curriculum while supporting different levels of familiarity and intent. The experience is structured to feel guided, but not restrictive.
An editorial-inspired layout introduces space and hierarchy, balancing long-form content with a more digestible rhythm. Familiar, tactile references like paper textures and tabbed navigation creates a sense of calm while improving usability.
Key systems moves include:
A flexible tab system that functions as both navigation and progress tracking
Modular content blocks and accordions to manage dense material like research and case studies
Lightweight prompts and flashcards that encourage reflection without interrupting flow
To support offline practice, I redesigned the downloadable MBSR manual as a companion resource, extending the experience beyond the screen and reinforcing long-term engagement.
Overview
Palouse Mindfulness offers a free, 8-week online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course, based on the program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. While widely respected in clinical settings, the existing platform was dense and difficult to navigate particularly for younger, digital-native users.
This redesign focuses on making the experience more intuitive and engaging without diluting the integrity of the practice. The goal was to support open access to mindfulness education through a calmer, more navigable digital environment.

Result
The result is a more accessible and focused learning experience that reduces friction without oversimplifying the material. The platform better supports sustained engagement across the full eight weeks, while remaining approachable for a broader audience.
By pairing a clearer interface with offline tools, the redesign positions Palouse as both a practical and credible entry point into mindfulness supporting continued practice beyond the course itself.
