Overview

Seashells are among the oldest known objects of human adornment — used for social status and exchange long before metalwork or gemstones. First Ornament takes that history as a starting point: eighteen bead-woven pieces, twelve bracelets and five matching necklaces, built around seed beadwork and seashell accents. The collection runs in two patterns — a horizon stripe running down the center of each piece, and a Japanese yagasuri motif — across five colorways: Petal Pink, Lemon, Dune, Radical Red, and Wakame.

Framework

Each piece was designed, beaded, and finished by hand, with construction and hardware considered alongside pattern and color. Silver-plated hardware was used across most of the collection, with sterling silver Tibetan toggles reserved for a later 2.0 series. Sizing was treated as a real fit problem rather than an afterthought — each listing specified exact body length, full length, and wrist fit, with custom sizing offered at no additional cost. Packaging followed the same standard: each piece shipped in a black velvet pouch and a jewelry box stamped with a personally designed hanko signature.

II.

Outcome

The collection was sold directly to individual buyers, with each sale documented from concept through construction to final product photography. Working through pricing, sizing requests, custom orders, and packaging at small scale gave direct experience with the parts of a jewelry business that sit outside the design itself — the operational discipline that makes a collection sellable, not just wearable.
